What is the initial step after I have my manuscript ready?
If your manuscript is not edited, you should find a good editor to edit your work. Editing shapes your work. After editing, you should consider contacting a Graphic Designer who will design for you.
Why should you contact Bhutan Printing Solutions after my works are edited?
As much as you value your work, we put our efforts to craft your publication the way you want. Most of the design works that we receive do not meet the printing criteria. Authors land up getting books with many faults.
Bhutan Printing Solutions provide free designing and layout if the books are printed with us. Actually, authors save upto Nu. 20,000 which otherwise should be paid to the Graphic Designer.
However, authors must provide photos in high resolution and illustrations. If authors need illustrations, we can connect them to the versatile artists and illustrators for which they may be charged for their services. But it is always a worth paying.
After the book is designed, we provide two dummy copies. One for you to proofread and one for you to submit to the office of BICMA for registration. This is also a time when we can provide you the exact cost of printing as we will be clear about your requirement.
How much will my book cost to print?
Let us know the following:
Number of pages
Size of the book
Is your book going to be printed in colour or in black and white?
Type of paper that you want to have your print on for cover and the inside pages (if you visit us, we can show you various paper samples)
Number of copes that you want to print
Is BICMA registration necessary and what are the procedures?
Yes, it is if you are planning to commercially distribute in Bhutan.
Well, you can choose to self-publish the book or publish through a registered publisher. While self-publishing, you have the rights of your book to yourself while the agreement with the publisher will depend on the publication terms that you agree with. You can decide for yourself how you want to publish your book. Forms are available online at BICMA’s website or you can get them at the front desk. Minimal registration fees are charged for registration. Review of your book may take sometime before a BICMA registration number is issued. Bravo! After this, you are a step away from having your books printed.
Wait! Is it compulsory to have ISBN?
It is not. It is your choice. ISBN in our country is issued by the Centre for Bhutan Studies and GNH. You can either apply through hard copy forms or online here https://www.bhutanstudies.org.bt/application-for-isbn/ Online is the easiest way.
Well, after that?
Did you reread the books well? Do you remember we provided you two copies? One is for you to re-read your work. Re-read! Re-read. Things cannot be changed after it is onto print.
Hmm…. Then what next?
Provide us your BICMA registration number and the ISBN. Tell us if you want to make any changes to your book. We do it patiently as much as you want and the way you want with our professional inputs. If you have hired a designer, provide the same to him/her.
Then, it is good to go into the print.
Well, my book is ready for print. Can I have 100 of them for my launch in few days’ time?
Yes, but at an added cost. Large quantity books are printed in sheets and all pages should be printed at once. Before binding, all the pages should be printed. It is a costly affair to deliver books in a smaller lot.
Plan your launch date ahead and work accordingly so that there is no rush. Anything done in haste results into printing errors and bad printing quality. At least have a month’s time for printing. Plan your publication well. Printing is what you want in the best form.
That’s good. But why should I print with Bhutan Printing Solutions?
It is absolutely your choice where you want to print. However, we have printed for many authors in Bhutan – some very seasoned writers and some very young. All of them are our satisfied customers.
